Vahdat is situated at the foothills of the Hissar Mountains, 20 kilometers from Dushanbe. A railway line and a highway pass through the city. Initially founded as the village of Yangi-Bazar in 1927, the city went through several name changes before receiving its current name. In 1936, it was renamed Ordzhonikidzeabad, and in 1965, it gained city status. In 1992, it was renamed Kofarnihon, and finally, in 2003, it was given its present name, Vahdat.
Today, Vahdat boasts a developed industrial sector that ensures stable economic growth. Several factories and plants provide jobs for the residents. The Ramit Gorge, with its unique natural beauty, is considered the jewel of Vahdat.
To the north, Vahdat borders the Ayni district of Sughd Region; to the west, it is bordered by the Rasht, Nurabad, Roghun, and Faizabad districts; to the east, it neighbors Rudaki district; and to the south, it borders the Nurek and Yavan districts of the Khatlon Region. The Kafirnigan River flows from the northeast to the southwest through the city.
The “Ramit” nature reserve, along with the recreation centers like "Yavroz," "Donish," "Kaihon," and children’s camps such as "Mountain Tale," "Khamsafar," and "Roghun," creates vast opportunities for tourism development in Vahdat. Vahdat also boasts an ecological zone, healing water sources like "Zairon," and hundreds of recreational and educational facilities.
